Please ask, we’d be happy to work with you. Visit our eBay Store! http://stores.ebay.com/Aunt-Mabels-Quilts     About Us   v Aunt Mabel   My great-Aunt Mabel is an Old Order Mennonite who has been in the quilt business for over 40 years.  Aunt Mabel’s mother (my great-grandmother) was one of the first people to make and sell quilts in Lancaster County, PA. Aunt Mabel started sewing patches by hand as a child before she was old enough to go to school.  She first got involved with making/selling quilts when she got some quilts from her mother to sell at the Kutztown Festival in Pennsylvania.    Aunt Mabel started making quilts on her own, but as the business expanded it became too much work for her to do alone.  People started asking Aunt Mabel for work to make extra income and she was glad to be of assistance to them and for the help they gave her.   v  The Quilts   The work on these quilts is done by farm women from Amish and Mennonite communities all over the United States.  These women work at home and do the quilting and piecing in their spare time.  Most of the sewing is done over the winter after the crops have been harvested and farm-life slows down.  Quilt Prices are competitive so that Aunt Mabel can continue to provide a way for these Amish and Mennonite women to make extra income from home.   The quilts are pieced by home sewing machines. Some of it is even done on treadle sewing machines by old-order Amish that don’t use electricity.   These quilts are made with many individual pieces of fabric.  For example, the Postage Stamp design is made of 4,800+ pieces and the king-size has 5,600+.   The quilting is meticulously hand stitched and done mostly by Amish women. The quilting on one quilt would normally take one person 2-6 weeks to complete, but could take longer.  There could be 60 to 70+ hours of quilting time into a quilt, depending on the design.   Aunt Mabel has created her own unique designs as well as using traditional patterns.  Her designs include Flying Compass, Five Star Log Cabin, Linking Hearts, and Log Cabin Stars At Home. She has also modified patterns from small quilts or wall hangings to get a similar look in a large quilt. These designs include Rhapsody Song and Bargello Wave.   Aunt Mabel has a great gift for coordinating colors. This is reflected in the materials and color schemes she chooses for her quilts.  Aunt Mabel loves to use distinctive fabrics in her quilts which include: hand-dyed batik, oriental-style, and Civil War reproduction fabrics.   v Quilt Materials & Care   The quilts are made from high quality cotton fabrics. The majority of fabrics are 100% cotton, but about 2% of the fabrics are cotton blends.  The filling is made of polyester. The quilts are washable but the fewer times the better, as more washing will make them wear faster. The quilts can also be dry-cleaned. Spots can be cleaned with a cloth and water, rubbing alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide. On Jan-08-09 at 21:43:17 PST, seller added the following information:These quilts are available for sale in a shop. So it is possible that one of the quilts listed here on eBay might have already sold. If any quilt becomes unavailable the listing will be taken down as soon as possible, a full refund will be given if this happens to occur. I hope this doesn't cause you any inconvenience. Feel free to ask about the quilt before purchasing if you like.
