Description
The Brown Jaspé Blanket The subtle transformation of color from dark to light develops a stunningly elegant visual across the entire field and generates interest whether spread flat in it’s fullest expanse across a bed, or folded or draped over a piece of furniture. This blanket is woven with a classic 2/2 twill weave structure which creates a most luxurious drape and the look of perfect softness. What’s surprising is that the blanket is even softer to the touch than it looks. Both the blanket and its binding were woven and assembled by hand by me in my weaving studio outside Carlton, Oregon, USA. The blanket is woven with baby alpaca yarn and the binding is of 100% silk. I use alpaca yarn because of the extraordinary properties that make it one of the finest luxury yarns on the world fiber market today. In addition to being as soft as cashmere, alpaca fiber has additional properties that make it a perfect for blankets. First, it is warm; warmer than wool. It is also strong to create a fabric of lasting quality, and it has a luster that gives it a beauty all its own. The baby alpaca yarn I use is softly spun, worsted yarn. Because it is worsted, it fulls during the finishing process to give the fabric structural integrity, while still maintaining its visual integrity in the process so that each yarn in the finished fabric is still visible and individually recognizable. This means that the weave structure is still apparent to add an additional layer of visual interest to the colors and design as well as a unique hand, drape and texture. All of my blankets are hand-woven on a 98-inch wide, air-assisted, shuttle loom. The silk bindings for each blanket are also woven by hand on the same loom. My goal is to have each blanket I weave present the fullest expression of the art of weaving. Weaving is a joy and a pleasure for me. I hope that a little of that joy and pleasure is transferred to you when you wrap yourself in the Handwoven Luxury of a Bōdmer Blanket.
