Description
You are bidding on a 1 gallon - 6lb bag of Turface. This is the Turface we use in our bonsai soil mix - see our other auctions. We mix equally with pine bark and turface to create our blend that is styled after Jupiter Bonsai. Turface MVP is a very versatile porous ceramic soil conditioner which lends itself to many uses. Resembling crushed tera cota pots, its unique ability to absorb moisture and prevent compaction puts it in a league of its own. This product degrades only 3.5% over twenty years; meaning it is a permenent addition to the soil. Other products also made of calcined clay and claim to be "just like" Turface do not live up to their claims because of Turface's unique manufacturing process, which provides a very stable, uniform particle with consistent color and little dust. In new lawn construction, it is ideal to till Turface into the soil before planting, especially in soils with high clay content, so that the soil resists compaction, thereby leaving more room for air in the soil, so that the plants can breathe and provide passageways for better water drainage. It is also used extensively to backfill aeration holes, further reducing compaction and increasing drainage. Turface is also popular in gardens and anywhere else the soil needs to be amended for increased drainage and less compaction. Some Bonsai enthusiasts here in Florida are starting to use straight Turface as a Bonsai Soil without any other additives. Jim Smith of Dura Stone Bonsai has been using it by itself succesfully for some time now with tropical bonsai. We ship gallon bags US Post office Priority Mail.
